Witloft Aprons x Henk Schiffmacher
Henk Schiffmacher is a painter, writer, collector, world traveler, but most of all famous for his tattoo shop. He tattooed a whole range of international film- and rock and roll stars over there, like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam, Kurt Cobain and Willy de Ville.
Henk Schiffmacher’s craftsmanship suits Witloft perfectly. That’s also why we think it’s extra special to launch this exclusive collection together with him! He’s been a huge fan of our robust leather aprons for years. Therefore it was Henk who took the first step and approached us. He said he would like to spice up the collection a little bit, make it more daring. No sooner said than done. We gave Henk all the creative freedom he needed, and that’s when he came with the idea to place a large tattoo on our classic cognac apron. After all, a piece of leather is also skin!
This exclusive collection consists of 2 cool aprons called “Barbacoa” and “Buccanian girl”, which are fully covered with a tattoo developed by Schiffmacher. Both designs tell their own story based on the beginning of the meat culture, and the preparation and conservation of it by certain tribes.

BUCCANIAN GIRL – Handmade “tattooed” leather apron
This exclusive collection in collaboration with tattoo artist Schiffmacher consists of two cool aprons, which are fully covered with a tattoo by the hand of Schiffmacher. Both designs tell their own unique story. Based on the beginning of the meat culture, the preparation and conservation of it by ancient tribes.
“Buccanian girl” tells the most interesting story of pirates. As they used to cross the ocean, looking for gold and land, they had to preserve lots of food and meat. Pirates learnt how to preserve food from the ancient tribes they met on their journey. With this knowledge they could sail even longer at sea and explore more of the world.

Initially this was done underground with large pieces of meat or whole animals that lay cooking on coals for days. Later, Barbacoa became not only a way of cooking, but an art style with unique shapes and silhouettes.
